This year I took a little informal survey to see if the girls still wanted me to make Christmas pajamas, or if they just wanted me to buy some. It was unanimous that handmade still wins out. I waited until the last minute, as usual, to make them. I couldn't decide, or rather I couldn't find the pattern I wanted to use, so I couldn't buy fabric. Then Burda patterns went on sale. I bought $25 worth and then the cashier announced I had saved $122--I've got lots of sewing in my future. Who are we kidding, I always have lots of sewing in my future. ;) The pattern I found actually wasn't a pajama pattern, it's a swimsuit coverup (Burda 9470), but it was just what I was looking for. Then I had fabric to get! I found all of it except for Drummer's at Hobby Lobby in their quilting fabric section. I had fun choosing prints for each one. Drummer's I already had, glow in the dark bones. Hehe! I bought some leggings to go with them in case it's a cooler night. The only change I made was to the buttonhole loops. I used elastic instead of making the loops out of fabric. The buttons came from my aunt who did some dumpster diving (okay, maybe just dumpster peering) at a clothing manufacture by her house. They're cool, metal, slim buttons...and I had more than enough! ;)
The girls still wear their white nightgowns from last year, although they have either shrunk by several inches, or these girls of mine are doing some growing on the sly. Also, they're not nearly as pristine as they are in the photo ;)
And going back to 2011, the year they finally got a brother, and their produce jammies.
It was a magical Christmas. And I've vowed to start sewing early this year. Someone please hold me to it.
One more thing! The sweet girls I met through instagram, Shaneen @shaneenrosephotos & Hayley @hjsouthwood, have featured me on their lovely blog, bReathe happiNess. Go take a peek and see if you learn something new ;) Thanks, you two!
Is your house some kind of palace? That hallway seems to be huge! And oh so beautiful. All the black and white and the different but also matching pjs! It seems that though I'm normally more on the colourful side, I'm getting hooked on the black-white vibe...
ReplyDeleteIt's actually a bedroom! So it WOULD be a really big hallway ;)
DeleteLovely girls! (and a boy!) Their black and white nightgowns look so beautiful. And... where is "M", Katy!?
ReplyDeleteYou noticed that, huh? ;) it's getting finished up.
DeleteOh my! They are getting so big! When does that happen? So do you want next years pj reminder in November? LOL.
ReplyDeleteHaha! Yes, that would be me working WAY ahead ;)
ReplyDeleteAw man I love your stair-stepped kiddos! So funny how that little boy is doing his own thing, too...they are a crack up. Awesome nightgowns, great use of B&W as always!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kristin :)
DeleteI love that Divine is on her tippy toes to make it appear that she is taller than her little sister. As an older sister I always wanted to be taller than my little sister. ;D I love the pjs. I purchased ours this year. Husband wanted to go with matching flannel feety jammies for the entire family, 5 of us with one on the way. It was an awesome awkward family picture and the kids loved it. Maybe next year, when I'm not pregnant, I'll make jammies again. :D Good work. I love your posts.
ReplyDeleteI love it! And yes, there's always next year. Thanks :)
DeleteDear Katy, I saw your kids are on a pattern cover (via your dads newsletter, I think)? I intended to check out the pattern, but deleted the mail. Can you tell me which company it is? Thank you :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, Iris! It's Marie-Madeline Studio. It's not my pattern or sewing, just my kids ;) Here's the link:
