There was tragedy this weekend. I'm still trying to recover. Sunday morning I ask Azure if I can help her find a Sunday dress to wear. No, I can get one. A few minutes later she comes out wearing Divine's Fun in the Sun{dress}. Um, Az (pronounced AZH), that dress is too big. Let me help you find something. After pleas and protests, her shoulders slump as we walk hand in hand to the bedroom. How about this? (holding up a striped dress I made) No. What about this one? (holding up another striped dress I didn't make) NO.
I. DON'T. LIKE. STRIPES!
Gasp! How could she be my flesh and blood? How could she possess half my genetic make up? I'm still trying to unravel the mystery. So, we settled on a dupioni silk, hand smocked, non-striped dress I made years and years ago. Well. At least I still have a non-verbal child to throw all my stripe proclivities toward. Good boy. I was a bit hasty in finishing the leg cuff and serged a cute little hole in it. Of course those weren't the chosen words I used to describe it at the time, but I mended it with a little dart and all is well. Naughty Sergei.
I think I might have wasted some pretty great triple stitching on the knee patches and back yoke, since you can't see them very well, but I really love details like that. Or a faux zipper.
Or one different oriented and colored buttonhole.
I made a size 6 mo, but it still fit him pretty well at 10 months (he's on the smaller side).
As usual, we're behind schedule around here.
Pattern/Fabric details: I used Burda 9505 for the shirt and was really pleased with how it came together. You can make it with or without the collar. The cuffs were a bit tight, but that's probably because I made a size 6mo. The rest of the fit was perfect, and I loved the miniature front pocket. The pants came from Ottobre Autumn 2010, and they also have a regular waistband version for older kids. The shirt linen is a designer remnant I bought in Dallas at Golden D'Or Fabric Outlet, the most fabulous fabric treasure trove for y'all (lucky ducks who live close to it), and the brown linen just came from Joann Fabric.
Are you a stripe junky, too?
doesn't like stripes... something to sleep on. :) What a great smile drummer has!
ReplyDeleteI love stripes, too, as one can tell from my latest project. Grace liked it except for one thing--it wasn't pink! It took me a while to convince her that because I'd just made her two other pink dresses, she didn't need a third one! But, well, while I love stripes, matching them not so much. I know they need to--that's why it took me several hours to cut out that last dress. I had to make sure that the stripes matched, and cursed when they patterns didn't quite match up, too!
ReplyDeleteHm, the link didn't show up. http://lauradsews.blogspot.com/2012/08/horsehair-braid-crin.html and it's Moda Girlie Girl stripe fabric....
ReplyDeleteI adore stripes, and polka dots. If they are combined, I about faint from cute overload. Love it.
ReplyDeleteLove the outfit and I love stripes and polka dots.
ReplyDeleteStripe-junky, that's me! I love Drummer's outfit and all the details in it.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, what a cute toothy smile! Adorable!
ReplyDeleteCute outfit!! I hate it when my girls don't like what I made for them. Why do they develop their own style so early? Oh well, here's hopping for another baby I can dress up for at at least 2 years.
ReplyDeleteOh my, he is such a cutie! I want to reach through the computer screen and pinch his cheeks! I love all the details you put in to your work. The different buttonhole is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteHe is too cute! I can't believe how big he's gotten! :)
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for your stripe tragedy. I do like stripes myself.
ReplyDeleteI have a question for you, being the queen of orange that you are. Where oh where can I find orange cotton lycra jersey? Or any solid orange fabric knit? I never seem to be able to find it at any of the online stores I frequent. Every colour but orange. Have you been buying it all up?
Your stitching and quirky details are perfect! Drummer looks very dapper and very comfy. Love that smile!
ReplyDeletePOLKADOTS....once our whole vacation photo album had the girls in polka dots EVERY DAY! I've been more careful now:)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE me some stripes! My kids don't usually lean that way, unfortunately:(
ReplyDeleteI do keep trying, though.
There is nothing cute than a kid in stripes!

I'm ridiculously pleased with myself for thinking those were Ottobre pants before scrolling to the bottom. I've been eyeing them up to potentially make for my own little guy and seeing them again I think I love them, I just may!
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe you made that outfit, just adorable!
ReplyDeleteGreat outfit! I love your sewing and photographing!
ReplyDeleteMany kind regards to you from Europe!
Caterina
I love him.
ReplyDeleteI'm with AZH, not really a stripe person either...but Drummer looks awesome in them! When did he get so many teeth!!!
ReplyDeleteI like paisley, stripes, paisley, polka dots, and did I mention paisley?
ReplyDeleteCute outfit, cute boy. Nice work. (and I hate when I cut a hole with my serger. Errr, hate it.)
Man the boy is cute! Can't wait to have him in my arms in a few.
ReplyDeleteSo cute! Look at all his teeth! My little Willa is 14 mo and has one teeny tiny tooth finally popping up.
ReplyDeleteAmazing, as always!!!
ReplyDeleteoh, drummer!!
