Lemon:Aid--Doing Some Good Today

One of the greatest things about blogging is the instant way we can make a difference for good in the life of someone else.  This morning as I was rushing to get everyone ready with a breakfast in their belly (or at least a banana), a lunch in their bag (or at least some lunch money), shoes on their feet and hair brushed and done, it was chaos.  Mondays are always the hardest Divine mumbled as we were trying to get to school on time.  I was pulling Olive's hair back in two ponytails and had the water on to run the comb under to help tame her mane.  I suddenly felt guilty, as I heard the fresh, clean, drinkable water run straight down the drain.  I know I take a lot of things for granted, but this morning, I want to help do something about it.

Have you ever had your water turned off?  One evening I reported to Ryan that there was a leak under my bathroom sink.  He promptly got under it to remedy the drip and the pipe rebelled and snapped off, sending water gushing into the bathroom, seeping under and into the closet (where my fabric was residing at the time!)  Puddle jumping in the house isn't nearly as fun.  So, he shut off the water, of course.  Mindlessly, though, I would still go into the kitchen and turn on the faucet, expecting water to come pouring out, or flush the toilet without thinking twice.  We are blessed that normally we don't have to think about those things.

Today is a very exciting day, a day we can all make a difference!  My sweet friend, Jenny, at The Southern Institute is raising money to help bring clean water to people who are in desperate need, and I am pitching in! Jenny is partnering with Blood:Water Mission, a non-profit that works hand in hand with African communities, providing clean water and hope. Today we can help by buying a glass of virtual lemonade (she makes the best), and donating the money to this wonderful organization. I'm so excited! Jenny's goal is to raise $1000, and I know that with your help we can help her do it. $1000 will bring clean water to 1000 people... FOR LIFE! Would you partner with me and Jenny to help the people of Africa... people like Semiya?

How can you say no?

this post reminded me of this little dress I made years ago

Thank you so much for making a difference in the life of someone who lives a world away from us... both literally and figuratively. You'll feel grateful every time you turn on the faucet :)

  4. KATY - you and your kiddos need to read "Long Walk to Water" by Linda Sue Park. Chop, chop! It's a WONDERFUL tie in to this post. Great for a read aloud for the whole family (I read it in a day...it's YA lit.). :)
