HP TouchSmart 320 Computer Review & Giveaway!

My kids think we're really old when we tell them about the time when computers were not in every home. You couldn't just Google any question you had or pop on the latest music video with YouTube during dinner preparations to dance to while singing into the whisk.
Learning to type happened on a typewriter that ruthlessly showed every mistake. Writing a report involved actual books. I couldn't see my grandparents on Skype anytime I wanted.
No, the world has changed.
Schools assume that every family has a computer with internet access for homework assignments, lunch menus, and class announcements. With four in school now, it sometimes requires a little bit of juggling with computer time. (Plus the games and netflix movies to watch!)
Recently a large box was delivered to our doorstep by a most jolly FedEx man. He seemed as excited about the delivery as we did! Inside we pulled out the brand new HP TouchSmart 320 PC with AMD VISION technology.
She was promptly set up in the kitchen. There was no jungle of wires and cords to deal with. Just a single cord for power. Wireless keyboard, wireless mouse. Hooray for easy! But it got even better.
I turned her on, swiftly set up the internet connection, and we were set to ROCK and ROLL. The HP TouchSmart 320 is exactly that. It is an interactive touch screen. What does that mean? You could put away the keyboard and mouse and still use the computer just fine! (I'm picturing water being knocked over onto the keyboard-the perfect remedy!) You can pull up a touch keyboard on the screen if you want or even manually write the letters with your fingers.
Clover is smitten. Instead of me telling her, "Don't touch the computer screen!" over and over, she gets to jab at it with those chubby little fingers to her heart's content.
Our favorites around here are Poissonrouge.com and Starfall.com. They are perfect for little beginners.
I got a call from an HP representative, and she filled me on some of the other cool features of the HP TouchSmart 320.
The screen can tilt 45 degrees for best viewing quality and has a built-in webcam for those Skype chats with grandparents and cousins who are in lands far away. You can also enjoy DVDs or the TV tuner features with the smooth, clear picture thanks to AMD’s VISION technology.
There is also a selection of HP TouchSmart apps you can use, such as the recipe app! Ryan and I will most certainly be utilizing that one. All your favorite recipes are at your fingertips. We tend to look up a lot of our favorite recipes on the computer these days anyway.
Needless to say we are enjoying our new HP TouchSmart 320. Want a chance to win your very own? Yeah, you heard me right.

Answer the question: How would your HP TouchSmart 320 get used by your family? to be entered in a sweepstakes for a chance to win a new HP TouchSmart 320. 42. We have a son with Down syndrome who also gets told repeatedly to not touch the screen--tv and computer. This sort of interactive screen would get him excited about learning and computer time is a huge factor in getting him to do his school work. This would combine the two in one. Wonderful! I wish they could put these in all schools where kids with disabilities attend. Because of difficulties with fine motor skills, the touch screen would be perfect.

    ReplyDelete
  43. As a homeschooling family, I've been contemplating getting a new computer just for the kids to use. I don't let them use mine, because it would be ruined.
We'd use it to learn to type, learn computer skills, and play games and such :) It would be wonderful if our family won... A great just in time for Christmas present!

    ReplyDelete
  44. With 5 kids I get kicked off the computer all the time. Love the touch screen.

  47. Our current computer was the cheapest possible computer purchase in grad school. A laptop that is heavy and ancient and so slow. When my husband was lugging it through the airport recently the TSA people laughed at him and asked what that ancient technology was.---If we won that laptop would receive a proper sendoff.

    ReplyDelete

  80. Wow! This is amazing Katy. Our family would absolutely love this. Like your little one, my Reid would love to have a more hands access to our computer. My oldest cherishes his computer time after school and this would definitely make that time more exciting for him. My husband and I would really enjoy being able to make computer time more accessible to our kids and more family friendly. A key board and mouse make computer time really a very one person at a time activity. I wonder what the touch screen could do to help it become more of a family affair through game night or something of the like.

  135. I love that it's a touch screen, but you had me at only 1 cord. I would love to get rid of the family computer that is so old, it doesn't have wifi capabilities and there are tons of cords and so tacky!

  136. Hello

I have a 3 and 4 yr. old that would love playing learning games on this computer. Bummed out that both kids will be held back 1 yr. because of their Sept/Oct birthdays so this computer would be awesome to have for learning!

  138. I would hoard this computer on my side of the desk....so that I don't look like a continual idiot. *grin* We have old PC's cobbled together, we have an iPad, we have older iPhones, we have an old old laptop....yet I'm the only one in the house that forgets only the apple products are touch screen....and here I am poking my finger at the PC screen. (I know, its a lost cause.) But then I would feel bad for hogging it, so I would set the timer and allow all the kids 20 minutes every afternoon for their homework, if they don't finish, tough cookies they can use the dinosaur machine on the other side of the desk. ;)

  150. I have a dud computer that has been a total lemon. With a husband out of work for 1.5 years and bills mounting up, there is not money for a new one. I love the idea of this computer because it seems like a great way to introduce my 3-yr-old to computers. Love the touch screen!!!
