We love unexpected celebrations at the Dill's--like sometimes we join other religions in their festivals! There was a Hare Krishna procession that went right down the beach this weekend.
We met up with the crowd at the beginning, mostly clad in our swimwear,
but we walked right along the shrine [some of us helping pull the massive rope] the whole way.
The saffron robes were bright and joyous.
The children were beautiful,
and the dances were invigorating and lively.
Clover dragged her stick in the sand as she walked.
This little girl I fell in love with, not just because she was wearing orange ;).
She would release the arm of her grandmother long enough to grab a small collection of shells.
There were happy parasols.
stalwart elderly men and women,
and little girls enjoying their finery blowing in the beach breeze.
It was so much fun to take it all in.
We would walk to the beat of the music, not knowing the chants, but still appreciating the enthusiasm and zeal of the participants.
[please excuse Clover's cheekiness]
Eventually the shrine was pulled to it's destination and we rested from our walk.
Some of the girls had face painting done [the best thing at Disney World, in their opinion.]
We partook of big watermelon slices, and Ryan plus two baby dills even went back for the vegetarian feast.
And although we received many looks with our five in tow
and another one clearly on the way, we soaked it up, and now Ryan wants to move this family of ours to India.

It made me appreciate the visible manner in which they celebrate their God. May we all live in such a way, both in our actions and in our hearts.
Gorgeous pictures. I love the one with the woman holding up her skirts while walking barefoot in the sand. Those colours are all magnificent!

ReplyDeleteThey have a shrine in my town, and do a chalk festival every year. It gets a little crazy, we try to leave town with all the people driving around. And all that chalk, wow, it gets a little crazy.
