I hadn't really planned to do anything to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, but I do enjoy Mexican food, so it wasn't too surprising that I happened to be making tostadas for dinner.
We took it outside, which is an instant way to up the excitement factor for these baby dills, although that also means that Divine has to pick little bugs out of the cheese on occasion.
Patiently waiting to chow down. Olive told me I was the best mom ever when I brought out the trays of food. :)
She was also my little sous chef, cutting up the olives and grating the cheese [an entire pound!-I forgot to tell her when, I guess.]
They all have their preference of crunchy or soft. I like one of each, thank you.
Ryan's favorite part, and I admit they add some extra yum, are the sprouts I've been addicted to for the last couple of weeks. These are pea sprouts, but I'm loving mung bean sprouts as well. I warped my sprouting tray in the dishwasher last year, thinking I was smarter than the warnings of hand washing only, so I just did these in a jar and eat them like candy throughout the day. Crunch! Are there fellow sprouters out there?
Oh wow! I need to make these. We eat quesadillas quite a bit, but never tostadas. That would be a nice change!

ReplyDeleteYou should do a tutorial on sprouting! Really really! I'd love to learn how. I have seen some on sprouting wheat, but I'm allergic, so I never paid attention. I didn't know you could even sprout peas! I'm definitely interested.

Hi, my name is vegbee and I am a sproutaholic. Seriously, we have sprouts nearly everyday. My kids eat them in handfulls. In the past I haven't been much a fan of larger seed sprouts, but the peas look pretty tempting. Perhaps I should give them another go?

I just heard about eating sprouted mung beans last night while watching an old episode of the office. How funny. I think this is a sign that I will have to try sprouting. Thank you for all your beautiful posts.
ReplyDeleteLove lentils sprouts and garbanzo beans sprouts....most of all love that you can sprout them all and they each have a different flavor. Never thought about them with tostadas though! What a great idea, ours are usually in wraps, on salads, or made into a veggie patty.
