ReplyDeleteYAY! Thanks Katy!
ReplyDeleteKaty, your family is beautiful and so is your blog! Here is my fave bread recipe (I know it by heart)
ReplyDeletePut a tablespoon of active dry yeast in 1/4 cup warm water with a pinch of sugar. Let it get all foamy while you do this other stuff.
Warm 1 1/3 cup milk. Melt 3 tablespoons butter. Mix these together with 3 tablespoons of honey, one tablespoon of salt, one cup of flour (I usually use a blend of whole wheat and unbleached white) and 1/2 cup water. Beat till creamy. Add yeast mixture. Mix.
You're going to add about 5 to 5 1/2 more cups of flour. I never sift it. I add about 1/2 cup at a time till I get a shaggy dough that just clears the sides of the bowl. Dump it out, knead it up, let it rise in an oiled bowl till doubled. Divide in half, form into 2 loaf pans. Let rise again until pans fill (about another 40 min, but it is faster if your kitchen is warm). You can do the slash-thing atop the loaves, but I don't. 350 for about 40-45 minutes until those babies sound hollow when you knock.
Best sandwich bread ever. Longest comment ever.
HAVE A GREAT DAY!
