The Befores

I don't know anyone who doesn't love a good before and after picture. Well, so far I have the befores! (The easy part.) These are photos from our new home--the fruity kitchen, and the soon-to-be harp room. I have started painting, and already retouched countless little fingerprints that seem to be attracted to any glossy goo they can reach. I find it exciting to choose the color that will surround our little family as we live our lives. This is the first house I've painted, so I'm also timid, not wanting to go too bold. Are there any seasoned painters with advice? Stay tuned for the results....!

  1. oh paint... i could say so much about it and yet nothing at all. we have 30 quart size 'samples' of reject colors in our garage... we found it extraordinarily difficult to repaint our house and even after all the headaches we devoted to the cause, we're still not 100% thrilled. I hope you have better luck finding happiness in paint than we did. I think the trick might be to coordinate all at once: floor, furniture, rugs, artwork, wall color instead of bit by bit as we have done. Unless you have a knack for interior design, its hard to pull it all together AND be bold and memorable (in a good way) all at once. Again. Good luck. If you find any amazing colors, let me know.

  3. Jennifer! It's so fun to see you here! And yes, I think the fruity kitchen made the previous owner....well, if you can't say something nice...

I'm looking forward to your blog!

  4. Ooh,ooh...I can't wait to see what you choose. I had fun picking out paints for the house we're in (it was like a practice run for me). We went bright and I love it, but it sort of takes over a room. You can always repaint...I would start mellow.

  6. Are your kids in bed, Jordan? Mine are and I'm about to go there myself.

I am starting out a bit mellow--even going white in the kitchen, saving the color for accents. We'll see how it goes...

  7. I need a picture of me. Actually I don't like pictures of me, so maybe I don't.

  8. Yes, you DO need a picture...I can't remember what you look like (oh, wait, our kids confuse us--you must look like me!) But, really, you NEED a picture.

  10. When we were first married and living in Mom Burch's house we ripped up the carpet and found hardwood floors. Then we painted everything white--the walls, ceilings, windowsills and floors white. White is a great backdrop for life. It makes rooms look bigger and brighter. Can't wait to see your results!
    Love,
    Dad

  11. Katy, How brave you are to paint with all those kids! Putting paint chips up helps but all in all light does weird things. But it is just paint and it is fun to experiment and be brave! Good luck.
